Waspam: The adventures

A number of years ago a hurricane came through this part of the country and did quite a bit of damage including destroying this bridge. This year they finally managed to create a make-shift bridge so that you can at least cross on foot. In the truck we just drive through the water. . . Until it rains and the water gets too deep. . . then we have to walk across and leave the truck on the other side. I would have been content walking through the river even though it was knee deep, but we decided to use the bridge. . . I can't say it was my favorite moment from the trip!

We went to visit the families of some of the kids in the home as well as to see if there were any other special cases. Everywhere we go we draw a crowd. . .

Project Food

Here's another hodge podge of sorts. . . I'm going to try and get back into taking the three meals a day pictures, but for now here are a couple to catch up on :)

Dinner: Rice and beans with fried plantain chips (Tajadas) and shredded chicken patties in a tomato sauce. They are quite tasty, just a way to change up serving chicken! With orange strawberry tang.

Dinner: Mmmmm doesn't your mouth just start to water looking at it! Rice (with some chicken consume to add a little color and flavor) with a fried chicken leg. On the side are mixed veggies (carrots, chayote, and peppers) boiled with shredded cheese melted on top. The veggies really are to die for!

Dinner: Rice (this was actually left over rice from a night we had enchiladas so the rice has a little bit of ground beef mixed in :) with fried plantains (tostones) they are actually double fried, perhaps making them doubly delicious too! The white stuff is a pipian guiso. Pipian is a white squash like vegetable and its cut up and mixed to make a creamy guiso.

Breakfast: Gallo pinto with an egg, a piece of bread and homemade salsa/tomato sauce :)

Waspam: The scenery

In all my other posts about Waspam I'm sure I've commented the same things but I just can't ever feel like words accurately describe this place. It's beautiful and natural and inspiring and everything else all at once. Here is a glimpse into the landscape that makes up the North Atlantic region of Nicaragua along the Rio Coco.

From the air

This is the runway that the plane lands on. Don't worry, the security officers make sure all the cows and other livestock get out of the way before the plane comes.

The huge jet plane we ride to get there! There are seats for 12 passengers (although I'm not sure I've even been on when it was completely full) and 2 pilots.

The Rio Coco (Coco River) A huge source of resources to the Miskito nation.

The homes. Houses are almost all made of wood and put up on stilts.

The beautiful landscape and sky as the sun goes down.

Pizza night

How fun is this :) The kids (both big and little!) loved it.

The only problem was that this is how it was outside so the walk from our house down to the big house to put the pizzas in the oven was quite an adventure. Especially by the 3rd or 4th trip

Project Food: Day 10

Sorry, there's been a lapse in time, but here is more food!

Breakfast: Gallo Pinto, fried plantain chips and hot dog :) With Strawberry Tang

Lunch: Soy Rice with beans and a bread tort type of thing made of maseca (the corn meal type of flour that we use to make corn tortillas) with lemon tea to drink.

Dinner: Chinese rice with toasted bread and tea to drink

How does it happen that I blink and all of the sudden nearly an entire month has passed. It's crazy!

Really there is so much to update on I can't even organize it all in my head (it doesn't help that I'm in bed ready to go to sleep though either)

1. I have some songs that I have recently fallen in love with. Here they are, in no particular order :)

"I Refuse" by Josh Wilson
"Oceans" by Hillsong United
"Te Prefiero a Ti" by Marcos Brunet
"Atrae mi Corazon" by Marcos Brunet

I just feel so convicted by the first one, and the other three just make me want to do nothing more that simply worship my God for ever and for always. Such pure love songs for our Savior.

2. I have more pictures of meals but most of them are just dinners. I got a little bored of taking the same gallo pinto and tortilla picture so I kind of stopped (that kind of defeats the purpose of the project doesn't it) but I still was taking pictures of  new dinners just to show more variety, but obviously you can see they have not been posted yet. . . Soon, I hope :)

3. We had Debonney's Quinceanera! What a great party, and also a very cool testimony to the way that God shows favor and works things out. Don't worry, she'll get her own post showing all the pictures.

4. I was in Waspam. I fall more in love with that place every time I go. I'm not exactly sure what it is that attracts me to it but I definitely enjoy the time I am able to spend there. I have lots of things to share about being there, like maybe multiple posts worth, but again. . . that will happen when I'm a little more awake and my thoughts can come across more coherently! For now I will leave you of a little glimpse of the trip :)

I was just listening to the song Oceans again while I was picking out these pictures, and the lyrics just hits me,
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me. . .
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine.

How beautiful is it to know that we have this God who is our ultimate rest. We are fully His and He is fully ours. With Him we have no need to fear, there is no reason to question our existence, and there is every reason to simply trust. Even though the trust may seem blind, our faith tells us otherwise and the presence and the Spirit of the Lord leads us and guides us to know Him even more.
